40K 2nd edition challenge

Because I don’t have enough hobby projects to turn into jobs, I have entered the Warhammer 40K 2nd Edition army challenge! Together with 33 other gamers, I’m going to try to create a 1,000-point army for Warhammer 40,000 2nd Edition.

They created a logo for me, which I think is charming.

I grew up playing the 2nd edition of this game in high school and at university, and I have a lot of nostalgia for it despite its flaws. In particular, I had some cultists in my Chaos army, and they were quite a challenging army to collect. There were only a small number of models ever released for the army, and considering that cultists are among the worst troops in the game, they had a very high pounds-to-points ratio. Most people used other models: Imperial Guard, Necromunda, converted Warhammer Fantasy models, and models from other manufacturers.

It’s this creative reuse of figures from all over the place that I’m hoping to emulate in my army. I’ve got all kinds of oddities, and I’m filling in the gaps with whatever comes to hand, which is the correct spirit even if not the correct models.

I’ve gone off the papercraft Leman Russ concept, though, so if you have a beat-up old one you feel like selling me, let me know.
